A quick thought occurred to me after my last post… What, if anything, happens when you load this in iPhone’s browser?
I would guess that quartz composer (let alone access to the camera) is disabled in MobileSafari, but has anyone actually tested it?

Just tried it. Doesn’t work unfortunately. I just get a gray screen and an icon hinting that the video can’t be played.
